Objectives
“English for Law” covers the primary areas of International Law and aims to prepare law students who wish to work or study in an international environment. Comprised of instruction in reading, listening, speaking and writing, this course is designed to teach specialized vocabulary and use of English in the legal sphere and can be helpful to students preparing for the ILEC exam (International Legal English Certificate, a Cambridge ESOL Exam.)
Course Contents
The course is divided into thematic units (see: Syllabus).
Within each unit students will develop a range of specific vocabulary including collocations, phrasal verbs, as well as formal and informal variations for each theme.
Ample opportunity for developing listening and speaking skills is provided via lecture, audio recordings, class discussion, pairwork, role-play, debate, etc., all within the context of the legal sphere.
Basic English writing skills are included in the coursework, along with their practical application in the form of inter-office memorandums and formal letters.
